About the Festival of Spirituals

The Festival of Spirituals, which actually predates the founding of Cimarron Circuit, has been a Palm Sunday tradition since 1970. The late Thomas and Carol Brice Carey, opera singers and Cimarron Circuit founders, developed the annual festival to keep aspects of African-American heritage alive. A selection of new and familiar spirituals will be presented by the community, student, and guest singers. The festival is one of only a few nationwide that seeks to preserve this original American art form and the stories surrounding its evolution.

The 2025 Festival

The 2025 Festival of Spirituals will be in person, but broadcast online at a later date for more people to enjoy.

The 55th Annual Festival of Spirituals will take place on Palm Sunday, April 13th, 2025 at 6:00pm at The First Presbyterian Church, Norman, Ok
